This publication is the result of in-depth linguistic research aimed at cataloging Polish and Russian exponents of generalization and approximating the mechanisms of generalization typical of aphorisms. Based on the collected corpus of texts, it was possible to construct a kind of "grammar of generalizations": subject, qualitative, quantitative and temporal exponents of the generic communication register. As a result of a holistic approach to the phenomenon of generalization in connection with the analyzed genre, a rich reservoir of linguistic carriers of genericity was identified, which partially confirmed the hypothesis of generalization as a textual category of aphorism.

Both Polish and Russian aphoristic material show similar mechanisms for expressing generalizations. Each of the considered material groups reveals its own internal specificity in terms of the methods of generalization used, as well as certain interlingual system differences, which the author tried to take into account in the description. The conducted research shows that the generalizations made by humans in their daily linguistic practice are characterized by exceptional diversity and creativity (in contrast to formalized approaches to this problem).

This monograph is addressed to philologists of various specialties, in particular linguists: Russianists and Polish scholars. The book can also be used in teaching Polish and Russian, as well as in translation practice. An invaluable source of knowledge for all those who want to explore the secrets of language and understand how we can express universal truths and insights with words. Let this book be your guide to the world of linguistic generalizations and discover how much is hidden in seemingly simple aphorisms.
