The book "Agora. Statistics" is the result of the HyPaTia project, a women's history of Polish Theater. The authors propose looking at the theater and its surroundings as a very specific labor market. In their opinion, statistics (a close relative of probability calculus) tells us something about women's chances of promotion or creative self-fulfillment. Statistics do not lie, at least not the descriptive ones, their interpretations may be false at most. Statistics in their basic form show us in the form of numerical data what it is like, covering a wider field of view than that resulting from our personal observations. It can confirm our intuitions, giving them a stronger basis, it can also surprise us.

It is worth considering whether the theater is changing: is it taking up more topics related to women, is it removing misogyny from its field, is it more open to forms that could be associated with female writing and action? The book was prepared by a team consisting of Agata Adamiecka-Sitek, Agata Chałupnik, Krystyna Duniec, Ewelina Godlewska-Byliniak, Jagoda Hernik Spalińska, Joanna Krakowska, Katarzyna Kułakowska, Justyna Lipko-Konieczna, Agata Łuksza, Monika Żółkoś. Each of them brought a unique perspective and experience, creating a comprehensive view of the role of women in Polish theater.

"Agora. Statistics" is not just dry data. It is a story of perseverance, the fight for equal rights and the search for one's own voice in the world of theater. The authors, using precise statistical analysis, describe reality, asking important questions about equality, opportunities and the influence of gender on a career in the theater. The book asks questions about whether the theater is changing, whether it is taking up more topics related to women, is it removing misogyny from its field, or is it more open to forms that could be associated with female writing and action? Do statistics confirm our intuitions or do they surprise us? It is a fascinating read for all those interested in theater, statistics and the history of women in Poland.
