His pre-war years in Grodno and Vilnius, his tourist passions realized in the Vagabonds Club with personalities such as Czesław Miłosz, are just the beginning of an extraordinary story. After the outbreak of the war, he became involved in the conspiracy and belonged to the Union of Armed Struggle, co-created a secret people's university together with Stanisław Stomma, and then fought in the Home Army and in the brigade of Zygmunt Szendzielarz, the famous Major Łupaszka. His life in the Polish People's Republic was also full of challenges and difficulties, but it was these experiences that made him one of the most outstanding writers dealing with Polish history.
Ewa Beynar-Czeczott, the daughter of Paweł Jasienica, has collected many facts and family stories in this book, creating a kind of summary of her father's life.
