The novel "A Short Trip," published in Yugoslavia in 1965, is the work of the eminent Croatian writer, poet, translator, and literary critic, Antun Šoljan. The author skillfully uses the motif of travel to build a story about a few-hour trip by a random group of young people - art historians, journalists, photographers - gathered around the charismatic figure of Rok. Their goal is to find a hidden monastery on the Istrian peninsula, where unknown medieval frescoes are to be found.

This seemingly trivial expedition becomes a source of surprises and disappointments. The participants, for various reasons, gradually detach themselves from the group, and only two people reach the goal. However, even then it is not clear whether the monastery is reality or just a hallucination. The journey itself, full of ambiguous images and reflections, becomes an opportunity to reflect on human existence, with references to cultural tradition and the present.

The road through stony Istria, under the Mediterranean sun, is a metaphor for the road through life. In the novel, it is difficult to find simple answers to difficult questions, because wasteland predominates during the journey. The original atmosphere of the book refers to the works of Hemingway, Camus, and the authors of the Beat Generation. The afterword to the book was written by its translator, Maciej Czerwiński.

Sedno Publishing presents this unique work in an elegant paperback cover, with a format of 210x137 mm and 132 pages. It is a must-have for literature lovers looking for deep and inspiring reading.
