  • Universal themes of death, love and war
  • Manifestation of the joy of life and meditations on nature
  • Translation by Bogusława Sochańska

Morten Nielsen (1922-1944) was a Danish poet and member of the resistance movement during World War II. His poetry, written in the face of threat, expresses the desire for freedom and reflections on life under occupation. The volume "Fighters Without Weapons" is his most important work, which still resonates in Denmark and inspires subsequent generations of artists.

Bogusława Sochańska, the translator of this edition, is a respected connoisseur of Danish literature and a laureate of many awards for translations, including the Gdynia Literary Award. Her work on "Fighters Without Weapons" allows Polish readers to fully appreciate the beauty and depth of Nielsen's poetry.

The selection of forty-four poems from this volume shows the poet's split between the need to fight and the aversion to killing. His work, full of tenderness and a contemporary perspective, is particularly relevant in today's times, when so much is said about heroism.

Biuro Literackie presents the seventh position from the Classics of European Poetry series, giving readers a work that escapes the definitions of one current and is an important point of reference for subsequent generations of Danish artists. "Fighters Without Weapons" is poetry that moves, inspires and encourages reflection on the human condition.

Morten Nielsen's poems, although written in a specific historical context, retain their universality and relevance. His voice, full of passion and concern for the fate of man, speaks to us today, reminding us of values such as freedom, love and peace.
