Archbishop Edward Profittlich, a German Jesuit, played a key role in the renewal of the structures of the Catholic Church in Estonia after more than 500 years. His connections with Poland, where he studied and worked, had a huge impact on his ministry. The book shows his pastoral activity among Poles in Opole and Hamburg, as well as his involvement in the Catholic mission in the East.

The biography describes in detail the dramatic events during World War II, when Estonia came under Soviet influence. Archbishop Profittlich, despite the offer to return to German citizenship, remained faithful to his beliefs and refused to cooperate with totalitarianism. His arrest by the NKVD and subsequent death in Kirov became a symbol of martyrdom for the faith.

The book by Aleksander Posacki SJ and Krzysztof Homa SJ is not only a biography, but also a testimony to the power of faith and the steadfastness of the spirit. It shows the importance of martyrdom for the living community of the Church, recalling the words of Tertullian: "Sanguis martyrum semen christianorum" - the blood of martyrs is the seed of Christians. This publication is a valuable source of knowledge about the history of the Catholic Church in Estonia and about the life of one of its most important representatives.
