Budgie, despite their modest stature, played a key role in shaping heavy metal. The band from Wales, often underestimated, helped define this musical genre. The original line-up recorded three albums in three years at Rockfield Studios. In the years 1974-1979 there were many changes in the line-up and four more albums were created for the MCA and A & M labels.
The emergence of the new wave of British heavy metal in 1979 and the addition of John Thomas to the band refreshed Budgie, who returned with new energy in the 1980s. In three years, three albums were released: Power Supply (1980), Nightflight (1981) and Deliver Us From Evil (1982). During this period, the band performed three times at the Reading Festival, and in 1982 was the headliner.
Budgie also traveled behind the Iron Curtain, visiting Poland in 1982 and completing a triumphant tour of sold-out stadiums. After a break in 1988, the band returned in style, playing to a huge audience in San Antonio in 1995. The popularity of Budgie's music was sustained by broadcasts on Texas Radio and Metallica covers: Breadfan and Crash Course.
This book by Chris Pike is a comprehensive look at the history of Budgie in the years 1980-2010. The story of the band is enriched by the contributions of its members, technical staff, photographers and promoters, who share their memories and stories. It is a must-have for every fan of heavy metal and the band Budgie.
