HITLER'S WILLING EXECUTIONERS. ORDINARY GERMANS AND THE HOLOCAUST

Daniel Jonah Goldhagen's book, considered by some to be the most important work on the Holocaust, and discredited by others, addresses a topic previously neglected by historians. Goldhagen asks a simple question: who exactly were the Germans who perpetrated the Holocaust? The answer is based on extensive documentation in the form of post-war testimonies of perpetrators.

  • In-depth analysis of the role of 'ordinary Germans' in the Holocaust.
  • Based on extensive documentation from post-war testimonies of perpetrators.
  • Considerations based on examples from the three main areas of activity of the genocidaires.
  • Analysis of the functioning of police battalions murdering Jews.
  • Examination of extermination camp staff and guards conducting death marches.
  • Conclusion that the extermination was carried out by 'ordinary Germans' because of anti-Semitic beliefs.
  • Shows anti-Semitism as a reason for accepting the Nazi program of the 'final solution'.

Daniel Jonah Goldhagen, born in Boston as the son of a survivor of the Czernowitz ghetto, a Harvard academic, seeks answers by analyzing in detail examples from the three main areas of activity of the genocidaires. He examines officers of police battalions murdering Jews during the war in Poland and the USSR, staff of extermination camps and guards conducting so-called death marches in 1945. He concludes that the extermination was carried out by 'ordinary Germans' for whom it was natural because of deeply rooted anti-Semitic beliefs.

The author proves on the basis of the collected data that, contrary to popular belief, the genocidaires acted voluntarily and 'selflessly', persecuting and murdering Jews literally until the last days of the war. This publication provokes reflection on the mechanisms of evil and the responsibility of the individual in the face of totalitarianism. Despite the controversy, this book is an important voice in the discussion about the Holocaust and its causes.

Aletheia Publishing presents this publication in a paperback cover, consisting of 718 pages. The book format is 205x145 mm. The year of publication is 2021. This is a must-read for anyone who wants to understand the mechanisms of the Holocaust and the role of ordinary people in this terrible event.

Hitler's Willing Executioners is not only a historical analysis, but also a moral message that remains relevant to this day. The book encourages reflection on the nature of evil and its roots in society.
