Dietrich Bonhoeffer (1906-1945) was a German Lutheran clergyman, theologian, and anti-Nazi activist. His life and writings are widely regarded as a model of Christian courage and moral steadfastness. Arrested in 1943, he spent two years in prison, and in April 1945 he was executed by the Nazis just weeks before the end of the war.
