Dorota Kozaryn's monograph is a unique study of the language and historical context of Marcin Bielski's Chronicle. The book consists of two main parts, the first of which is devoted to the translation of the Book of Ecclesiastes, which has not been recorded in the literature, published by Bielski in the II and III editions of the Chronicle. In this part, the author tries to answer the question of why Bielski translated this biblical book, points out the differences in this translation between the II and III editions of the Chronicle, identifies the basis of Bielski's translation, and shows his translation method.
The second part of the book is devoted to the issue of selected elements of the publishing framework of the III edition of the Chronicle. It contains notes on the linguistic form of the titles, both of the entire text and its individual parts (books and chapters), and internal titles. The next chapter presents a formal and functional analysis of marginalia, i.e. elements placed on the margins of individual cards. In the next chapter, the subject of interest is Obłądzenie słow niektorych dołączone do Kroniki, to jest historyi, czyli errata (The error of some words attached to the Chronicle, that is the history, that is the errata). The aim of her analysis will be to reconstruct the genre pattern realized by her, to show the types of errors corrected in the corrigenda, and to determine her authorship. This book is a valuable source of knowledge for all those interested in the history of the Polish language, the history of literature, and the culture of the 16th century.
