This volume, according to the title, focuses on the malady perspective, specified in the categories of epidemic, disease and pathological. The authors of the texts look at the epidemic topic related to various diseases, as well as pathologies. An advantage of the book is the presented multi-perspective view of the above-mentioned issues, because although all the voices of researchers in the volume can be combined with the common denominator of the humanities, they differ significantly in specific solutions.
The idea of the volume is extremely accurate, fitting into the increasingly popular disease discourse. It addresses issues that none of us could escape in recent years: the experience of the pandemic and the general threat of increasingly dangerous diseases that can disrupt not only the functioning of the health service, but also social and cultural life. Highlighting that this type of situation is not only a sign of the present, but has its (various) sources in past centuries, allows us to look at the reality around us differently.
Thanks to the diversity of styles, genres and epochs subjected to viewing, we not only gain conviction about the heterogeneity of representations of epidemics, diseases, pathologies, but we are as a society better prepared for further difficult events and borderline situations. This book is essential reading for anyone who wants to understand contemporary challenges and threats.
