The book "Familoki. Silesian Microcosms" is not only a story about architecture, but above all about the people who created and still create the history of Upper Silesia. The author, Kamil Iwanicki, a Silesian scholar and the initiator of the Familoki project, takes us on a journey through the workers' settlements, showing their beauty and unique character. We get to know the daily life of the inhabitants, their customs and traditions that have survived despite the passage of time.

Familoki are a symbol of Upper Silesia, as deeply rooted in its landscape as the mine shafts, heaps and chimneys. Outside Silesia, they are mainly associated with the films of Kazimierz Kutz, Lech Majewski or the paintings of the Janowska Group. And possibly with the increasingly popular historical district of Katowice - Nikiszowiec, which in 2011 was added to the Polish list of historical monuments. Kamil Iwanicki tells in the book about their history dating back to the end of the 18th century.
