HERITO magazine is a platform for exchanging thoughts and reflections on cultural and natural heritage. Issue 39, titled "Green," was created under extraordinary conditions, which made us even more aware of the need for harmony between humans and the environment. Lockdown and quarantine intensified the longing for nature, and at the same time, our awareness of the impending climate threats became even more acute.
At the heart of this issue is the thesis of Prof. Ewa Bińczyk, who raises the question of the future of heritage in the face of the climate crisis. Are we aware of the consequences of the Anthropocene, the era of human dominance over nature? Can we take a broader look at the cultural aspects of the crisis and its impact on our daily lives? HERITO invites you to reflect on these questions, offering a rich collection of articles, analyses, and reports.
The issue includes texts by Renata Lis on Festung Anthropozän, a conversation between Ewa Bińczyk and Przemysław Witkowski about the future of heritage, an essay by Urszula Zajączkowska about escaping from the botanical garden, a history of Polish air by Bartosz Panek, and an analysis of bird music by Paweł Romańczuk. Małgorzata Grąbczewska examines the history of nature photography and Janusz Sepioł explores the landscapes of Lesser Poland. There are also reviews of nature books and an excerpt from Maja Fowkes' book on neo-avant-garde art in the times of socialism.
The International Cultural Centre, the publisher of HERITO, has been engaged in intercultural dialogue and the promotion of cultural heritage for years. HERITO magazine is one of the most important projects of this institution, offering readers a unique perspective on the relationships between culture, history, and nature. It is a must-read for all those who care about the future of our planet and want to understand the challenges we face.
