Johannes Kromayer (1859-1934) was a German ancient historian, specializing in the warfare of archaic and classical Greece, as well as military issues of republican Rome. He lectured at the universities of Czernowitz and Leipzig. He was a permanent member of the German Archaeological Institute (from 1914) and the Saxon Academy of Sciences (from 1915). The history of warfare of the Greeks and Romans was the last book in his scientific career.
