Jan Polkowski, born in 1953, made his debut with the phenomenal volume "This is not poetry" published in the underground before August 1980. He was recognized as the most outstanding poet of the 1980s. Modern diction was accompanied by immersion in the history of the nation and an evangelical message. Patriotism, messianism, moral tension, awareness of family ties, revived tradition, and at the same time sensational poetic discoveries, from which hordes of younger poets still benefit today. Jan Błoński enthusiastically summarized the first stage of the poet's work.

In free Poland, Polkowski fell silent for almost twenty years, only to return in 2009 with the stunning volume Cantus. He broke with his old style, and the tone of his poems also changed. The dominant feature of the new works became the bitterness of passing, melancholy, despair, soothed only partially by the contemplation of nature or the evocation of fleeting moments of family happiness. Jan Polkowski. A poet for adults. A poet whose work is open to very different interpretations. This is evidenced by the reading testimonies contained in this volume: a single poem, a cycle, a work linked to a biography.

The volume "Not a word for her. Necessary Poems" is a collection of poems that touch the deepest strings of the human soul. In his poetry, Polkowski touches on the themes of love, loss, transience and hope. His poems are full of emotions and reflections, and at the same time written with extraordinary precision and attention to words. It is poetry that stays in your memory long after reading it.

The book, published by Universitas Publishing House in 2021, in hardcover with a dust jacket, has 136 pages. The 205x157 mm format makes the volume handy and comfortable to read. It is the perfect gift for anyone who appreciates poetry at a high level.
