The novel's action begins in 1948, when the Security Office completes the liquidation of the IV Command of the "Freedom and Independence" Association. In 2017, 94-year-old Stefan Sieńko, aka "Wiktor", in the documentary "Operation Caesar", confesses to many years of cooperation with the communist security service, without showing any remorse for his betrayal and the handing over of his colleagues from the AK and WiN to death.
