Jerzy Jaworowski (1919-1975) was an outstanding graphic artist of the Polish People's Republic, known primarily as a book designer and illustrator. He mainly collaborated with the Czytelnik publishing house, but also with PIW, Iskry and Więź. Few people knew that in the privacy of his home he created private drawings that became his true passion. This is what this book is dedicated to, presenting a unique and intimate aspect of his work.
Every day another work was created, made with one of the original techniques based on inks diluted with acetone. The posthumous exhibition, at which this work was presented, made a huge impression on both the audience and the critics. Danuta Wróblewska wrote that Jaworowski's works restore faith in the first foundation of art, which is drawing. Drawing is the simplest instrument of creative sensitivity, the first definition in the language of art and at the same time the basis of all studies on plasticity.
Henryk Tomaszewski, a close friend of Jaworowski, was impressed by the quickly, broadly sketched figures of dancers who seemed to fly through the air. He also noticed signs, like stamps, gray as well as black and white, all done with a single hand movement. He emphasized that the spontaneity of Jaworowski's gesture was controlled, as with the greatest masters, where the hand does not deviate even a millimeter beyond the planned path. This testifies to the artist's extraordinary precision and mastery.
