THEATRE, ARTISTIC AND RESEARCH COLLECTIVES

Enter the fascinating world of artistic collectives, where the boundaries between creators blur, and innovation arises from collaboration. The publication "Theatre, Artistic and Research Collectives" is a journey through the ideas, practices and challenges posed by the contemporary cultural scene, in which creative teams seek new forms of expression and organization.

  • Analysis of collectives: Detailed study on the functioning of artistic teams
  • Interdisciplinarity: Overview of projects combining various fields of art and science
  • New forms of organization: Examination of alternative management and creativity models in culture
  • History and present: Comparison of traditional and modern theatre collectives in Poland
  • Funding issues: Discussion on grants and institutionalization in the context of artistic activity
  • Evaluation of effects: Reflection on the influence of collectives on the development of art and culture
  • Safe work environment: Creating a friendly atmosphere in the team

The inspiration for this publication was the research of Jan Lauwers, who in his team Needcompany aimed to create an environment based on experimentation, intimacy and care. The term "Needlapb" was intended to reflect the need to create a laboratory in which artists from various fields of art could work together and cross boundaries. This idea became the starting point for a deeper reflection on contemporary creative collectives and their role in culture.

The publication analyzes how theatre, artistic and research collectives operate under rules other than the established institutional ones. The authors wonder whether collectives arising within institutions are able to break them from within, proposing a different model of action, or whether they can enrich the existing mode of operation. An important aspect is also the evaluation of the effects of the activities of collectives and the analysis of the needs that lead to the establishment of such groups.

The book raises questions about the purpose of creating collectives: is it about creating a spectacle that cannot be realized under other conditions, or about creating a new, friendly and safe working environment that provides energy, creative freedom and a different kind of individual responsibility and commitment. This publication is a valuable source of knowledge for all those interested in the contemporary cultural scene, new forms of organization and creativity in art, and the challenges facing the contemporary artist.

The Zbigniew Raszewski Theatre Institute, the publisher of this publication, has been supporting the development of Polish theatre culture for years. The Institute's publishing activities cover a wide range of topics related to theatre, from history to contemporary trends. The publication "Theatre, Artistic and Research Collectives" is in line with the Institute's mission, promoting reflection on contemporary forms of creativity and organization in culture.
