The "Give Things a Word. Speech Apraxia 2" set is the result of many years of work with patients with speech apraxia. The authors, based on scientific research, such as the works of Boehme (2003), Howard and Varley (1995), Dabul and Bollier (1976), Holtzapple and Marshall (1977), Knock et al. (2000) and Raymer et al. (2002), have developed a systematic and effective exercise program. The leading deficit of motor aphasia, in addition to purely linguistic disorders, are motor difficulties related to the reconstruction of the movement sequences needed to pronounce a given word, i.e. speech apraxia. Improvement requires therapy specifically focused on this deficit. Researchers emphasize (Boehme, 2003) that a large number of repetitions are important, even when syllables or words are mostly pronounced correctly. It is also important that the face of the speaker is visible, which will allow the patient to observe and imitate articulatory movements. Other tips can also be helpful, such as a hint with a gesture (e.g. touching the larynx area with your hand to present voicing) or, as in our publication, additional verbal instructions, i.e. a description of the pronunciation of the sound, photos showing the arrangement of the lips or graphic diagrams showing the arrangement of the speech organs during the pronunciation of the sounds.
