KRONOS 3/2023 DEMODOK - COLLECTIVE WORK

We invite you to read the issue of Kronos, which is a continuation of the issue devoted to Plato eleven years ago. The inspiration for both publications is Leo Strauss, whose advice and suggestions were invaluable to us. In this issue, we present Plato's Epinomis, which has not yet been translated into Polish. In it, the philosopher analyzed the stars, considering their influence on life on Earth. Demodok, the last of Plato's texts not yet published in Polish, stands out from his other works. The structure of Demodok differs from typical Socratic-Platonic dialogues, resembling more of a coherent text than a dialogue. Nevertheless, the themes remain unchanged, especially the criticism of democracy as the rule of the many.

  • In-depth analysis of philosophical issues
  • Presentation of Plato's previously unpublished texts
  • Essays by outstanding philosophers and thinkers
  • Criticism of democracy as a form of government
  • Archive of Polish philosophy
  • Reviews and polemics on current topics
  • Inspirations of Leo Strauss

In the issue you will find presentations, essays and an archive of Polish philosophy. Among the presented texts is Plato's Demodok, with notes by Joseph Souilh and essays by Stefan Oświecimski and Margherita Isnardi Parente. In the essay section, you will find Xenophon's Memorabilia, Leo Strauss' commentary on this work, as well as texts by Thomas Pangle and Laurence Lampert. There will also be analyzes on Nietzsche in the 21st century, with essays by Laurence Lampert, Andy German, Richard Velkley and William Wood.

In the literary section, we present Homer's Odyssey in Antoni Libera's translation, and in the archive of Polish philosophy we find texts by Henryk Duda and Jacek Woroniecki OP. The issue concludes with reviews and polemics, including Wojciech Engelking's notes on Piotr Nowak's Sketchbook of a Misanthrope and Maciej Wilmanowicz's reflections on the political dimension of John G.A. Pocock's time.

Kronos is a journal that has been bringing together outstanding philosophers and thinkers for years, presenting their works and analyses on the most important issues of today's world. Each issue is a carefully selected collection of texts that provoke thought and encourage a deeper understanding of the reality around us. Kronos is a must-read for all lovers of philosophy and the humanities.
