"My Faith" is a record of the spiritual quest of Leo Tolstoy, who in mature age turned away from a carefree life as an aristocrat and turned to religion. However, it was not a simple conversion to the bosom of the Church, which Tolstoy criticized for its departure from the ethical teachings of Christ. His anti-clericalism led to his excommunication in 1901, and his pacifist and anarchist beliefs put him in opposition to both church and state authorities.

In his treatise, which is a spiritual autobiography, Tolstoy based his faith on the Sermon on the Mount, which he considered the essence of the Gospel. From this source, he derived his opposition to war, violence, oaths, and courts, but opposition without struggle, consisting of refusing to participate in evil. In twelve chapters, the author describes his path to this attitude, and his zeal and sincerity did not prevent the authorities from banning publication, although the confiscated edition still reached readers.

Tolstoy's faith is primarily a recipe for earthly life - moral and joyful, illuminated by faith in Christ, but devoid of Christian dogmas such as eternal life or resurrection. It is a proposal for those who seek meaning in life in ethical teachings and personal experience, not in dogmas and institutions. The book "My Faith" is a must-read for anyone seeking spiritual inspiration and answers to fundamental questions about the meaning of life.
