When the heiress of the estate, Irena Orwidówna, is found, Marek intends to leave, but unexpectedly finds an ally in her in the fight to preserve the heritage.
Maria Rodziewiczówna (1864-1944) is one of the most outstanding Polish writers of the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries. Author of numerous novels and short stories in which she addressed patriotic, social, and moral themes. Her works, full of idealism and belief in the power of the human spirit, were very popular with readers. Rodziewiczówna was also an active social activist involved in education, culture, and the fight for Poland's independence.
