St. John Mary Vianney was born in 1786 into a peasant family in France. From an early age, he was distinguished by deep piety and a desire to become a priest. He was ordained a priest in 1815, and three years later he took over the parish of Ars, a small village where the inhabitants were religiously indifferent.
