The research project "Woman of Ancient Epochs" is part of the European trend in women's studies and is its Polish equivalent. The aim of the project is research that includes scientific fields involved in the study of women within the cultural heritage of Europe from the Middle Ages to the birth of feminism. This period is characteristic of a centuries-old controversy, now known as querelle des femmes (dispute over women). As a matter of principle, this project consists of pluridisciplinary studies and comparative research focusing on tracing the history of the debate on the role and place of women in European societies.

The publication is a very diverse work thematically, even considering the broad cultural context that goes beyond Europe and directs the reader's attention to African and Asian soil as well.
