BRIDGES. TRANSFORMATIONS IN DESIGN AND CONSTRUCTION TECHNOLOGIES
This publication summarizes the Scientific and Technical Seminar that took place in Wrocław in November 2017. It was organized by the Department of Bridges and Railways of the Faculty of Civil Engineering of the Wrocław University of Science and Technology. It is a compendium of knowledge for engineers and construction students who want to explore the secrets of modern bridge construction. The collective work is a valuable source of information on the evolution of design and construction techniques in bridge construction.
- Comprehensive view of bridge engineering in Poland and Europe.
- Analysis of changes in the philosophy of bridge design.
- Overview of modern technologies for the construction and maintenance of bridges.
- Discussion of the impact of integration with the European Union on Polish bridge construction.
- Modern materials and technologies in bridge construction, such as BIM.
- Case studies of interesting bridge structures in Poland.
- Important quality issues in bridge engineering.
After 1989, Poland opened up to the world, enabling Polish engineers to cooperate with companies and design offices from developed countries. In the following years, there was a rapid transfer of new technologies and construction solutions, which contributed to the construction of many interesting bridge structures in Poland. Polish bridge construction has reached an average European level and is becoming recognizable on the international arena. The publication analyzes whether Poland is fully exploiting the opportunity to belong to the European Union, including access to common standards (EN) and participation in European research programs.
The seminar was dedicated to reflecting on the changes taking place in bridge engineering, both in the philosophy of design and in the technologies of construction and maintenance of bridge structures. The observed changes mainly concern quality issues, where the future is not only the present multiplied by a number, but completely new materials and technologies, such as Building Information Modeling (BIM). The book contains 48 scientific papers that discuss the discussed issues in detail, presenting various perspectives and approaches to bridge engineering.
The publication contains 574 pages and its format is 16.5x23.5 cm. Published in hardcover by Dolnośląskie Wydawnictwo Edukacyjne in 2017. It is an invaluable source of knowledge for engineers, designers, students and all those interested in modern bridge construction. It presents the latest trends, technologies and construction solutions that shape the future of bridge engineering in Poland and in the world. The book is a collection of scientific articles that summarize the knowledge presented during the scientific and technical seminar, showing the progress in the design and construction technologies of bridges.
