"Cat Letters" is an extraordinary novel that allows you to look at the world from the perspective of cats. The author, Oya Baydar, describes their daily life, worries, and joys with humor and sensitivity. Cats conduct a rich correspondence in which they share their observations about people, politics, and existence. They try to understand human secrets and the reasons for their worries. They witness human quarrels, the breaking of old bonds, and the personal tragedies of their owners.

Cats ask themselves prosaic and philosophical questions. They hide from people their ability to partially understand their world and the possibility of contact with other creatures. Thanks to their observations, exchanged in "cat letters", as well as their experiences and innate instinct, they know much more about us than it might seem. They lament the pettiness of people, their destructive pursuit of the unattainable, their talent for creating problems and undervaluing the beauty of simple life.

Oya Baydar (born in Istanbul in 1940) is a multi-award-winning Turkish writer and journalist. In 1972-1974 she was a columnist in the newspapers ?Yeni Ortam? and ?Politika?. During the military coup in 1980, she emigrated with her husband to Germany, where they lived as political refugees for 12 years. Her books have been translated into 20 languages. Julia Krajcarz, the translator, is a graduate of Turkology at the Jagiellonian University and a cat lover.

After reading "Cat Letters", the background of which is the fate of Turkish political emigrants in Western Europe, you will never look at cats the same way again! It is a book that will surely make you laugh, move you, and make you reflect on your own life and relationships with others.
