Cannas prefer sunny, warm and sheltered locations, which provides them with optimal conditions for growth and flowering.

For cannas to grow beautifully and bloom profusely, they need fertile, deeply cultivated and loose soil, free of weeds. It is advisable to regularly fertilize them with compost or multi-component fertilizers to provide them with the necessary nutrients. Cannas grow very intensively during the growing season, so it is important to provide them with adequate water and nutrients. We plant them at a depth of 10-15 cm, at a distance of 40-50 cm from each other, preferably in April or May, when there is no risk of frost.

Caring for cannas is relatively simple. They require regular watering, especially during droughts, and fertilization to provide them with adequate nutrients. Stiff stems prevent the plant from breaking, but in windy weather the large leaves can be damaged, so it is advisable to choose a sheltered location for them. In our climate, cannas are grown only in summer, as frost destroys the plant. In autumn, after the first frost, we dig out the tuber, cut off the dead leaves and store it in slightly moist peat, so that we can enjoy it again in the next season.
