Paul Tillich's book "Christianity and the Encounter of the World Religions" is a collection of four lectures delivered in 1961 at Columbia University. The author analyzes the relationship between Christianity and other major world religions such as Judaism, Islam, Buddhism, and Hinduism, as well as quasi-religions, which include secularism, nationalism, fascism, communism, and socialism. The theologian is concerned with the universalistic character of Christianity, which confronts many cultures, religions, and ideologies.

The translator's introduction, by Jacek Aleksander Prokopski, is an existential reflection on the past, especially on the common roots of monotheistic civilization originating from Abraham. The Polish philosopher also creates a broader, modernized eschatological-political vision of world history. The philosophical-theological structure of the essay gives him the opportunity to critically look at Christianity amidst the multitude of paths to salvation.

Reading the book provokes existential controversies and questions about the mystery of human existence, the certainty of faith, the choice of religious path, the Bible, the condition of the Church, and satanic illusions. Both Tillich's book and Prokopski's introduction are characterized by a rare religious courage, especially in the intellectual world, where there is a lot of ideological lies and manipulation. This book should therefore reach everyone who has an open mind and wants to understand the extremely important, because religious and ideological, aspect of the current situation in the world. Finally, it should provoke critical thinking not only in relation to the relationship between Christianity and the world religions, but above all in relation to one's own nature, to ourselves, here and now.
