The anthology is a collection of source texts from the years 1919-1939, which constitute a representation of the title phenomenon from the perspective of concepts, projects, and programs (parts 1-3) and from the perspective of achievements and realizations (part 4). The authors of the collected texts are primarily artists, as well as critics commenting on their proposals and achievements. Since the publication in 1973 by Wydawnictwa Artystyczne i Filmowe of the book "Theatrical Thought of the Polish Avant-Garde 1919-1939. Anthology", edited by Stanisław Marczak-Oborski (notes by Lidia Kuchtówna), this is the first comprehensive proposal to capture the achievements of the Polish theatrical avant-garde.

Repeating some canonical texts, the anthology brings numerous new titles, new perspectives, and different contextualizations. Individual texts have been scientifically elaborated and equipped with extensive annotations reflecting the current state of research. The basis of the publication is mostly original prints, and the editors have made every effort to restore the original form of the texts, the iconographic and typographical side of which was of particular importance.
