When a young landowner, Konstanty Oporowski, is murdered, councilor Teodor Goszczyński begins an investigation. Soon he is joined by Kostek's sister, Makryna, who wants to avenge her brother. However, the murderer turns out to be extremely intelligent and cunning, and Makryna falls into his trap and disappears. From that moment on, Councilor Goszczyński makes it his goal to find Makryna and solve the mystery of Konstanty's death.
The story of the investigation is intertwined with the life story of the protagonists, their moral dilemmas and the choices that shape their fate. The author draws psychological portraits of the characters with great precision, giving the reader the opportunity to understand their motivations and assess their actions. The figure of the murderer is particularly interesting, whose motives are complex and ambiguous.
Rafał Grupiński also takes us to the 5th-century Roman province, where we can meet St. Augustine, who conducts intellectual disputes with Zenon and the Donatists. Makryna's fate is intertwined with the fate of Roman women fleeing the war from the capital of the Empire and kidnapped in Carthage to brothels. The author shows with great sensitivity the tragedy of women who became victims of cruel times.
"Żubura" is not only an excellent crime novel, but also a deep reflection on human nature and the eternal struggle between good and evil. Rafał Grupiński moves with great ease through various literary genres, creating a work that will satisfy even the most demanding readers. The book was published by Wydawnictwo Poznańskie in 2025, has 360 pages and a hardcover. The book format is 212x158 mm.
