Romuald Broniarek worked for 35 years as a photojournalist for the weekly "Przyjaźń", treating his profession as a craft. His photographs illustrated Polish-Soviet relations in the communist era. Today, after years, his work takes on new meaning, becoming a valuable document of the era. Most of his archive went to the Ośrodek KARTA Foundation, where nearly 80,000 negatives, slides and prints awaited discovery.

The album accompanies an exhibition at the Dom Spotkań z Historią, whose curators, Katarzyna Broniarek-Niemczycka and Filip Niedenthal, faced the challenge of selecting from thousands of photographs. They created a coherent story, free of propaganda context, showing Broniarek as an observant and sensitive observer of everyday life. Among the selected photographs are shots from official events, but also those captured "out of the corner of the eye", showing ordinary, everyday life.

Broniarek's photographs are not only a documentation of the era, but also a testimony to his talent and sensitivity. His photos show Poland with humor and irony, as it really was, against the expectations and demands of clients. The album "By the way. Unknown photographs of Romuald..." is a fascinating journey through time that allows you to look at the Polish People's Republic from a new perspective.

The album was published by Dom Spotkań z Historią in 2024. It has 184 pages and a hardcover. The format of the album is 218x261 mm. It is a must-have for anyone interested in the history of Poland and documentary photography.
