Romuald Szeremietiew, the son of a Russian who chose Poland, is an extraordinary figure. He graduated in law from the University of Wrocław, and then became involved in the independence movement. He was a co-founder of the Confederation of Independent Poland and led it. Persecuted by the authorities of the Polish People's Republic, in 1981 he was sentenced to 5 years in prison. After being released from the amnesty in 1984, he secretly founded the Polish Independence Party. In the years 1997-2001 he was a member of the Polish Parliament and Secretary of State in the Ministry of National Defense. Accused of corruption, he was acquitted of the charges after nine years. He is currently a professor at the Social Academy of Sciences.
