The history of Święta Lipka dates back to the 14th century and is associated with legends of miraculous events. One of them tells about a prisoner from Kętrzyn, to whom the Virgin Mary appeared and ordered him to carve a statue of herself. After his miraculous liberation, the prisoner placed the statue on a linden tree by the road, where it quickly became famous for its miracles. Soon, the first chapel was erected in this place, followed by a church, which over time became one of the most important Marian shrines in Poland.

The Święta Lipka sanctuary is an example of a perfect combination of architecture, art and spirituality. The Baroque basilica, surrounded by cloisters, impresses with its richness of decorations and details. The interior of the church is decorated with frescoes by Maciej Jan Mayer, which depict scenes from the life of Mary and the saints. A special attraction are the historic organs with moving figures, which delight listeners during concerts.
