Long ago I dreamed of Dracula. I knew the films with Blą Lugosim and Christopher Lee, acquired miraculously on video cassettes, but the novel itself remained inaccessible. Censors in the People's Republic of Poland were reluctant to look at a vampire who is afraid of the cross. Rumor has it that the publication of Stoker's novel was stopped as a result of a protest by the Romanian embassy. I remember my childish joy when I managed to get the first Polish edition, at the very beginning of the nineties. Unfortunately, it was not complete. Characters and threads flew out of the content. No one checked the quality of the translation. Dracula, one of the most influential books, had exceptional bad luck in Poland.
