This book is the second part of the history of Islamic art published in Poland, continuing the work The Art and Architecture of Islam 650-1250. The authors analyze the era, dividing it into two periods: from 1250 to 1500, marked by the Mongol invasions, and from 1500 to 1800, characterized by the development of Islamic art under the patronage of the Persian Safavid shahs and the Turkish Ottoman sultans. The event that concludes this period is Napoleon's invasion of Egypt.
Sheila S. Blair specializes in the art of Muslim Iran and Central Asia, with particular emphasis on Persian miniature painting in Shahnameh manuscripts. Her research also includes epigraphy, the art of Arabic calligraphy, and the art of ornament in Islam. Jonathan M. Bloom has devoted many works to the art of North African countries, including Ifriqiya in the time of the Aghlabids and Egypt during the reign of the Fatimids and Mamluks. He also studied the manuscripts of the so-called blue Qurans and the Shahnameh books, copied in Iran during the reign of the Qajars in the 19th century.
The authors, Sheila S. Blair and Jonathan M. Bloom, associated with the Norma Jean Calderwood Chair of Islamic and Asian Art at Boston College, are valued researchers for their expertise and numerous scientific and popular science works in the field of architecture and art of Islam. Their work is a valuable source of knowledge for anyone interested in the history and culture of the Islamic world.
