At the beginning of the 20th century, when theatrology gained autonomy as a university discipline, its subject of research was the performance. After more than a hundred years, the question is still being asked: what is the essence of theatre? Is everything theatre, or rather a spectacle or a performance? This irreversible tendency towards openness and flexibility of the boundaries of postmodern theatrology gives rise, for obvious reasons, to many doubts and anxieties related to its identity, but at the same time makes it in a process, as it were, in statu nascendi.

We give to the Readers a collection that is only a signal (one of many) at the crossroads of theatrology, a stop on an endless journey, a reflection of the pilgrim, a doubt of the philosopher, a testimony of the practitioner. This polyphonic statement focuses on at least several research areas that are crucial for the contemporary science of spectacle.

Adriana Świątek, MA, PhD student at the Department of Theatre and Drama at the Institute of Culture Studies and Interdisciplinary Studies of the University of Silesia, where since 2011 she has been implementing the research project SLAVDOM! EXPEDITION from the field of anthropology of spectacle focused on the issue of "The wedding ceremony as a cultural spectacle in Hutsul folk culture". Lecturer at the Faculty of Dance Theatre in Bytom at the Ludwik Solski State Theatre School in Krakow. In 2012, she received the Award of His Magnificence the Rector of the University of Silesia for achievements in cultural activities.

Piotr Tenczyk, a graduate of theatrology at the University of Silesia, class of 1985. Co-founder of the Dom z Jaśkowic Theatre Association. Co-creator of the Open Forum in Jaśkowice. Actor, director and writer. For years associated with poetry, including as a co-creator of the Zabrze poetry group 'Kubek bez Klamek' or the long-term cultural project 'Tajemnicza Grupa Bez Nazwy', operating in Zabrze and organizing many theatre, cabaret and music events in this city.
