Włodzimierz Tetmajer (1861-1923) is an extremely colorful and versatile figure. He studied at the Jagiellonian University and the School of Fine Arts in Krakow, as well as at foreign academies in Vienna and Munich. His education culminated in training under Jan Matejko himself. He was a co-founder of well-known artistic societies, such as the Society of Polish Artists "Sztuka" and the Society "Polska Sztuka Stosowana".
Tetmajer became famous not only for his artistic achievements, but also for his scandalous marriage to a peasant woman, Anna Mikołajczykówna. He also went down in literary history as the Host from Stanisław Wyspiański's "Wedding". His life and work are a fascinating example of the combination of art, politics and social life.
Fascinated by Polish folklore and the picturesque landscape of Bronowice near Krakow, Tetmajer mainly immortalized the inhabitants of the village, their customs and rituals.
