The General Encyclopedia of Philosophy is the first Polish encyclopedia of philosophy in the history of science and the fifth of its kind in the world. The initiator of the entire project and chairman of the Scientific Committee was Fr. Prof. Mieczysław Albert Krąpiec OP, while the editor-in-chief of the whole was Fr. Prof. Andrzej Maryniarczyk SDB. This encyclopedia provides a solid foundation for the full development of classically understood culture, including science, ethics, art and religion. It takes into account the heritage of classical philosophy as the foundation of the identity of European culture.
Published in Lublin, a city at the crossroads of various civilizations, religions and cultures, the encyclopedia provides a picture not only of European philosophy, but also of non-European philosophy. The universality of the Encyclopedia is expressed in the list of entries covering the achievements of philosophical thought from the Far East (India, Korea, China and Japan), the Near East (Arabic and Jewish), Central America (Incas and Mayans) and African thought (ethnophilosophy). The Encyclopedia also contains information about philosophers from the Balkan countries (e.g. from Serbia, Croatia, Bosnia), as well as from Romania, Bulgaria or Slovenia and the philosophy they practice.
The Encyclopedia takes into account the achievements of Polish philosophical thought and the contribution of Polish thinkers to the development of science, in particular philosophy and the humanities. The broad panorama of philosophy presented places the General Encyclopedia of Philosophy at the forefront of Polish and international philosophical literature. It is an irreplaceable source of knowledge for students, scientists and all those interested in philosophy. Allow yourself a journey through the world of philosophical thought and discover the richness of ideas that have shaped our civilization.
