Włodzimierz Herman, the author of the book, spent almost fifty years in Denmark, where he took root in Scandinavian culture. He became a kind of bridge between Polish and Danish literature, translating both from and into Danish. His work contributed to the rediscovery of many "old" Danish authors, which is permanently inscribed in the history of the literature of both countries. Herman did not break ties with his country of birth and artistic origin, which was appreciated by those responsible for cultural exchange in both countries.

Jarosław Iwaszkiewicz recalled that his earliest childhood memory was a book of Andersen's fairy tales, which made him love Denmark before he even knew it. Włodzimierz Herman, on the other hand, discovered Andersen only as a mature man, when he read him in the original and explained to himself that this brilliant writer wrote his fairy tales only seemingly for children. Paraphrasing Iwaszkiewicz, Herman could say: I learned and loved Denmark before I knew and loved the fairy tales of Hans Christian Andersen.

The Danish Velux Foundation (The Velux Foundation) has funded the publication as part of supporting the activities of older people who create important and useful works. The book "Poland - Denmark.
