The anthology "Contemporary Translatological Thought in German-Speaking Countries" presents the most important directions of development in German-language translation studies over the past 40 years. The collected scientific texts represent the domains of translatological thought in which researchers from German-speaking countries have clearly marked their influence, formulating important and sometimes even groundbreaking theses. Articles by authors such as Juliane House, Peter A. Schmitt, Peter Sandrini, Justa Holz-Mnttri, Hans Vermeer, Paul Kumaul, Gnter Abel, Werner von Koppenfels, Andreas Poltermann, Markus Eberharter, and Michaela Wolf, presented here for the first time in Polish, provide an inspiring complement to the canon of today's translation studies.

Focusing on one culture allows us to see the development of translation tendencies, to more fully show the interpenetration of old and new methodologies in relation to both utilitarian and literary texts, and to take a conscious approach to the (necessary) dynamics of change. Guided by these assumptions, the editors, together with a group of experienced and debuting translators, have created a work that is interesting and important not only for German-speaking experts in translation issues, but also for all those who are interested in translation in general.
