"Granica" is the story of Zenon Ziembiewicz, who could not bear the weight of his decisions. Nałkowska paints a portrait of a politician, husband, and lover who becomes a symbol of weakness hidden behind a facade of strength. His life, from a promising career to a tragic downfall, is a warning and a study of boundaries that must not be crossed. The author takes us on a journey through three worlds: the noble manor in Boleborza, the bourgeois tenement house of Cecylia Kolichowska, and the political salons of the city. Each of them has its own laws, but they are all united by the appearance of morality, which in confrontation with life turns out to be a fragile facade.

Nałkowska masterfully presents women with psychological skill - Justyna Bogutówna, a tragic victim of misalliance; Elżbieta Biecka, entangled in a world of conventions; and Kolichowska, a symbol of bourgeois heritage. Each of them is not only a heroine, but also a sign of her social class. The novel does not give simple answers. Was Zenon guilty or a victim? Was his betrayal a private mistake or an inevitable consequence of social pressure? "Granica" does not judge, but forces the reader to reflect on their own choices.

Zofia Nałkowska (1884-1954) is one of the most outstanding Polish writers of the 20th century, author of novels, dramas, short stories, and diaries, which to this day are an invaluable testimony of the era. She was a representative of the psychological and social trend in literature, a keen observer of the fate of the individual against the background of historical changes. Her work touched on topics such as morality, freedom, responsibility, and the limits of human action. "Granica", published in 1935, is considered her most outstanding novel - deeply psychological, and at the same time extremely relevant, because it touches on problems that never lose their importance. The novel has 164 pages, format 298x214 mm and a paperback cover. Published by ASTRUM Publishing House in 2025.
