"On the Other Side of the Man" is a collection of stories that reveal the truth about how a muse can become both a source of inspiration and a scapegoat. In ten moving miniatures, we meet women known from history and legend: from Laura, who comes to life in the poet's heart, through Helena at the side of a genius, to Marilyn - an icon elevated and trampled by the same world that adored her. Each of them has her name, her desires, and her quiet way of resistance. Until Trina - a herbalist condemned by her neighbors, whose fate shows how easily a community can turn fear into death.
Agata Bartoszek-Gaj, the author of the collection, is a graduate of Polish philology at the Pomeranian Academy. She works as a Polish language teacher, librarian, and fitness instructor. From an early age, she passionately read books and devoted most of her free time to them. She is an admirer of Virginia Woolf, Fyodor Dostoevsky, and Bruno Schulz. She debuted with the collection of short stories "Reminiscences" in 2016, nominated for the award in the Book for Autumn 2016 competition. Then she published the poetry volume "And in my garden grow", two novels: "The Tower of Sand" and "The Price of Illusions" and another poetry volume "Mr. Demiurge" and the third novel "Mint". She is a laureate of national literary competitions.
The book "On the Other Side of the Man" is not only a collection of short stories, but also a mirror that reflects the modern world. It is a story about power, desire, and the price that femininity must pay in the name of someone else's masterpiece. It is also an invitation to a journey on the other side of myths, where answers to questions about identity, love, and the meaning of life await us. A beautiful, painful, and disturbingly up-to-date read for anyone who wants to understand the complexity of man-woman relationships and the role of women in society.
