Alek Skarga, born in 1958, a graduate of the Jagiellonian University and the University of Wrocław, debuted in the 1980s, publishing his poems in the Scientific Notebooks of the Circle of Polish Philologists of the Jagiellonian University. His work, combining poetry and photography, has gained recognition from critics who compared it to the works of Barańczak and Kornhauser. Skarga does not shy away from current issues, describing the reality around us and the social mood, while maintaining psychologism and universalism.
In reviews from the 1980s, Herbert Oleschko and Andrzej Paluszkiewicz emphasized that Skarga is able to convey universal truths by embedding them in the specific socio-political situation of Poland in the post-August period. His interest in the present and his journalistic stylization are reminiscent of the poems of Barańczak, Krynicki or Kornhauser, but Skarga is not an epigone of the New Wave, but a complement to it. He owes her the courage to notice the problems of the present and the subjective character of these observations, creating a specific, poetic optics.
The poetry collection "Piotr Zaufał - Alek Skarga" is a collection of poems that touch on current issues, describe the reality around us and the social mood. They do not shy away from psychologism and universalism, offering the reader a deep reflection on the condition of modern man. It is a must-read for poetry lovers who appreciate socially and politically engaged works, which are at the same time full of universal truths and emotions.
