In the first half of the 18th century, Jelenia Góra became the center of activity of one of the largest families of sculptors in the history of Lower Silesia, and perhaps even in the whole of Central Europe - the Bechert family. The city was then experiencing an extraordinary boom, which was related to the production of fabrics exported to various markets. The Becherts were not limited to Jelenia Góra, they also operated in Kamienna Góra, Strzegom, Środa Śląska, Świdnica, Jawor and Żagań, leaving a lasting mark on the artistic landscape of the region.

For many years, the entire Bechert family remained in the shadows, underestimated by researchers of Baroque sculpture in Lower Silesia. Their work, although present in many places, has not received due attention and analysis. Only now, this book becomes an attempt to change this state of affairs, striving to restore the Becherts to their rightful place in the history of the region.
