At the time of the publication of "Prayer for Beginners" in 1945, Blessed Maria Eugeniusz was already a valued advocate of Carmelite spirituality. Maria Eugeniusz of the Child Jesus (Henryk Grialou, 1894–1967) was a Discalced Carmelite, author of the great work "I Want to See God" and founder of the Notre-Dame de Vie Institute. Throughout his ministry, he tirelessly opened to Christians the paths of prayer and contemplation, originating from the tradition of the Carmelites. He was beatified by Pope Francis on November 19, 2016.

Based on the teachings of St. Teresa of Jesus, the author encourages us to see that prayer is more than just a spiritual exercise.
