The book "The Girls from Room 28" is a moving story about a group of young girls who were deported to the Theresienstadt ghetto in 1941-1944. There, in the girls' home L 410, in room 28, their paths crossed. They lived in great cramped conditions, thirty girls in thirty square meters. From time to time, some of them were selected for terrifying transports to the East. New ones came in their place. The author, Hannelore Brenner, combines portraits of people, private notes, official documents, facts and events to create an extraordinary picture of the "times of contempt".

Hannelore Brenner, the author of the book, studied philosophy, German studies and theater studies. For many years she was a collaborator of the American author Peter Wyden. She worked for radio stations, and at Berlin radio she co-authored a program about Tadeusz Różewicz. The search for materials for a radio documentary about the children from the Theresienstadt ghetto resulted in long-term contacts with former prisoners of Theresienstadt and Auschwitz, and further projects on the Holocaust: radio broadcasts, a school education program, a play, this book and an exhibition entitled "The Girls from Room 28".

This book is not only a testimony to history, but also a universal story about the power of friendship, hope and survival in the most difficult conditions. It is a read that makes you think and stays in your memory long after reading. "The Girls from Room 28" is a must-read for anyone interested in the history of the Holocaust and the fate of people who experienced its cruelty. With extraordinary sensitivity and attention to detail, the author gives a voice to those who were silenced by history.
