Wooden sacred architecture was exposed to numerous fires that decimated these buildings. Nevertheless, by the beginning of the 20th century, hundreds of beautiful churches had survived, the oldest of which dated back to the beginning of the 16th century. Unfortunately, many priceless buildings were demolished in connection with the construction of new, brick churches. Both world wars also took their toll, and a difficult time began when the territories of Galicia came under Soviet rule. Many temples fell into disrepair because they were unattended or were demolished.

The album also presents no less fascinating brick churches, from the oldest ones from the 13th-14th centuries to the buildings of the 20th century. This extraordinary world of Galician churches has been captured in photographs from the last quarter of the 19th century to the end of the fourth decade of the 20th century. Many of these photos have been lost or are in unknown places, but a large part of them was collected by Paweł Kusal, a well-known collector from Lesko, who has been collecting this priceless collection with great commitment for many years.
