The volume "China and East Asia. Heritage in the Face of Change" was created to celebrate the 80th birthday of Professor Krzysztof Gawlikowski (1940-2021), an outstanding researcher of China and East Asia. Professor Gawlikowski was an advocate of intercultural dialogue, the founder of the Center for Asia-Pacific Studies at the Institute of Political Studies of the Polish Academy of Sciences, and the Institute of Asian Studies at SWPS University. He was also a co-founder and long-time editor of the scientific journal AzjaPacyfik. His contribution to the development of Polish Oriental studies is invaluable.
The book includes texts created by a group of twenty recognized researchers of China and East Asia from scientific centers in Poland and abroad, including Prof. Bogdan Góralczyk, Prof. Adam Jelonek, Prof. Kamil Zeidler, and others. The volume contains texts on a number of lesser-known topics that are not widely reflected in the literature; it thus enables the Polish reader to become acquainted with unique and previously unpresented issues relating to the politics, culture, social and historical issues of East Asian countries.
In addition to works discussing selected aspects of ancient and modern China and its international politics, there are texts on Japan, Thailand, Burma, and Vietnam. The publication was created with the financial support of SWPS University of Humanities and Social Sciences, the Polish-Chinese Friendship Society, and the companies Tan Viet, Pure Solar, and Diijia Poland. This is a compendium of knowledge that will satisfy the curiosity of both students and experienced researchers alike.
