Horatio Nelson was the most famous admiral in the history of the British fleet, who twice defeated the French fleet, for which he was immortalized in the history books - and on the famous column in London.

His strategic genius and ability to predict the course of battles were admired, and his achievements had a lasting impact on the history of naval warfare. In 1805, after the outbreak of another war with France, Horatio Nelson with his fleet operated in the Mediterranean, blocking French ships in Toulon for two years. The combined French-Spanish forces broke the blockade. Then Nelson developed an effective plan and won at Trafalgar. The English captured or sank 19 enemy ships, losing only one. Nelson fell, but secured England's naval dominance for over a hundred years.

The Nelson's Column monument was designed by William Railton around 1838. The granite column is 51.6 meters high, and the statue of Nelson was carved by Edward Hodges Baily. The pedestal is decorated with four bronze reliefs made of melted French cannons. They depict the battles of Cape St. Vincent, Abukir, Copenhagen and Trafalgar. An additional decorative element of the base are four bronze lions, designed by Sir Edwin Landseer and cast by Carlo Marochetti in 1867. The block model also contains these reliefs in the form of high-quality prints.
