Film supplements, although almost forgotten today, were once an integral part of cinema screenings. In the 1970s, a screening consisted of three elements: the Polish Film Chronicle, the Film Supplement, and the feature film. Often it was the film supplement that attracted cinema-goers, and cinema managers tried to match it thematically to the main film. For the makers of short films, this was a unique opportunity to reach a wide audience. Andrzej Barański recalls that although his films were not mainstream, thanks to the Educational Film Production Company he had the opportunity to work in his "quiet corner."

The decision to collect all of Barański's short films in one publication, under the common title "Film Supplements," was for him a return to the beautiful times when short films had their place and importance. This book is therefore not only an analysis of the director's work, but also a tribute to a forgotten film genre.
